If you had a line down you will not have your power restored until you have an inspection. JCP&L has been giving misinformation & refuse to work with the towns.

Nice to hear that our Republican gov is going to restore all those multimillion dollar homes on the beach in Bay Head with public funds. So much for the end of big government, at least till rich people with insurance want their summer houses paid for by taxpayers.

Why is its that Matawan residents have not heard a peep from the Mayor, nothing at all since this storm hit, is he speaking with JCP&L? Even if he isn't getting any info, the right thing to do, is to get word to the residents that he is trying to get info. Today's Press does not even have a mention of Matawan in the town by town storm update. No one I've talked to has seen ANY repair trucks in town. OTHER mayors are quoted saying this and that....they are involved. As of today, 81% of tiny Matawan has been without power since Monday. I KNOW we aren't alone, I DO understand the magnitude but where is the mayor of this town, why isn't there some communication?

I agree Shelly. If Corey Booker can get out to help the people of Newark, Why can't our Mayor & Council try to let us know SOMETHING! Our phones are out, cell service is touch & go, and no power to get on the internet or to recharge anything.
We will keep this in mind at election time...where ever that may be. ???

I am off wykoff by the mall 25 yrs. tell me what is the problem really because no one else will and on my grid nothing down except JCP&L trucks no where to be seen. Answers and facts from the town would keep for cooler heads. But of course again I fine Eatontown as silent as
my house.....JCP&L needs to more this town should have been on of the first up.

JCPL's latest excuse for not posting info on Long Branch is that the entire city is a "devastated Shore community.". Nonsense. We are in West End right now - no sand or floods or wrecked houses or downed poles or debris-choked streets. About 100yards from where I am standing right now - looking into West Long Branch - they have power. Monmouth U, the WLB McDonalds, the 7-Eleven, all are up and running. The only problem is JCPL's refusal to tell us when we will be restored. Perhaps I'll take a stroll to track down the devastation that hasn't stopped me from commuting to work this week (in record time) along empty and eminently passable roads, but which prevents JCPL trucks from venturing into our neighborhood.

In the grand realities of the damage done, our area is inconvenience challenged by the lack of elcectric power. Nonetheless communication is key. Land line telephones
work. The towns should take advantage of this opportunity to use their reverse 911 system to keep the community informed. The same system could serve those who choose to assist others with means and direction. Our communication through local government has been nonexistent. Where is our local leadership? Where is our Emergency Response Plan?
There has not been visible safety patrols to check on our senior citizens or our more challenged neighbors. Again, where is our local leadership? Where are the Emergency Response Teams?
We must do better and learn from these challenges. We spend a lot of money and man hours on putting plans together. What is the benchmark for these plans to engage? They do not seem to be efective based on the realities to date.

Ellen a lot of people no longer have land lines. If they do they don't have a phone that doesn't require power to operate. Try signing up for Code Red. It is a very valuable communication tool. I receive both text and voice messages with very important information. I'm attaching two links. One for Long Branch and Code Red. You are whining about not having power when you could be dead....hmmm....priorities you idiots. Entitled New Jersey folk. You wonder why everyone hates people from NJ? Well you are doing a great job of letting everyone know why! We just experienced the worst weather in NJ's history, 100's died in which they are not reporting (there are 200 bodies sitting in a high school in Staten Island, and more to add to that in NJ), homes ruined and lives changed. YOU want power so you can probably sit in front of your TV...wonderful. If you have kids you are an asshole for not preparing. I you don't...leave the power company alone...they have to connect every house one by one to get your lazy ass power. Get your priorities straight.

You have it all wrong. People from other states don't hate people from NJ ( the proof is in the popularity of the NJ TV shows), they just think that we are stupider than stones. We pay the highest property taxes in the nation. Bad enough, but we also pay to drive on our major roads, cross all the bridges out of the state, and to get on the beach in the Summer. For instance North Carolina has property taxes about 10 times less than us and they don't pay for all those things. Oh, buy the way their school system isn't as bad as you might think. My niece was educated through that system and is a very accomplished lawyer today.

It's nice to see some people put their energy into helping others who are much worse off. Most people realize the loss of power is a minor inconvenience compared to losing a loved one, a home or a business.

Would have been much better if JCP&L started off by explaining how they restore power. Much of Rt9 has had no lights for almost 6 days, yet you look around and wonder why? Some inland towns look in reasonable shape, yet they still wait for power. We wonder why? We get no explanation.

I live in Oceanport and we were hit very bad because we ate surrounded by rivers . Our two mile town has a wonderful shelter run now by Red Cross and a system on place on cell and home phone updating us. Our mayor also informed us what is going on with electric companies and what we can expect. If anyone is in need of clothing we have plenty, I know I volunteered and that's what I did all day. We have a place to charge our phone and yesterday we got electrici if you need wifi. We are in every sense of the word a community because we all help each other. That is what NJ is about!

I've received encouraging robocalls from the mayor every day and I'm satisfied with the communication level (with the exception of JCP&L and LB missing from earlier restoration spreadsheets). I think sharing the photos of the JCP&L crews it positive news for everyone in the area. Glad to hear the power is back in Oceanport!

Update from West End Long Branch: relying on JCPL projections we returned home to freezing darkness. Do we stay and freeze or try to leave and risk arrest for violating the curfew? At least if we go to jail, it will be warm. We are prisoners of JCPL's subterfuge. The projections are bogus. We are suffering. Will JCPL pay our bail? Do we violate the law by leaving home for safety, or freeze in the dark? Honestly, JCPL, have you no sense of common decency? Hope all is well and your corporate officers in Akron, Ohio are snug and warm. Have a nice, cozy and profitable evening in the Midwest.
