I disagree about it being a waste of time. It pulled many people together for a common goal and infused the town with a unique and powerful beauty. It gave kids practical, hands-on experience in creating art that is invaluable.

I will never understand how they can remove art but the graffiti around NJ
will stay up for years.

I have to agree with Lisa here, certainly not a waste of time. The artist and all involved worked very hard and it came out great! Maybe its just temp., I don't know, but it sure will be missed, everyone loved it!

I agree.......it wasn't a waste of time, it gave people happiness, even if it was short lived.

Well, where is the rest of the story? Why did it have to come down? Seems to me it took a lot of time to put up, and it was not there very long.

The pursuit of art and beauty is never a waste of time or talent. The artwork was deliberately done on panels so that it could eventually be moved to another location. I think that everyone, including the artists, understood that this was a temporary endeavor, since future building plans were already in front of the planning board when the mural project got underway. Apparently, the property owner will place a gas station at the location instead of a 7-11, which was defeated by the planning board. In the end, there will be a new ratable at the site and the moveable artwork available for another location.

I am the vice president of the Freehold Borough Arts Council. There is little I can say outside of prepared releases from the board of trustees, but I would like to thank all of you for your support. The mural project has enjoyed a lot of support from the community and certainly lifted spirits. For those of you on facebook, visit the FBAC page, there is a statement on this matter there. I can assure everyone that this very talented group is resilient and will get through this just fine. Our first year has been an astounding success and after looking at the events we have lined up for 2012, I am looking very forward to the future. happy New Year to all of you.

Marc your right the pursuit is never a waste of time but the destruction by spiteful adults, too work that was mostly done by the children of this town should be a crime. Has anyone even bothered to consider them? Somehow I think not. As an artist myself I was really enjoying knowing how much fun they were having and knowing what they were feeling. In a word? PRIDE! Pride in knowing they were actually adding something beautiful to their home town. I could care less about the gas station. All I see is a bunch of town officials that are too wrapped up in themselves to care about our kids. As far as the panels? Marc do you even know where they are? The arts council has no clue

Brian as always I love your optimistic attitude. With this I however don't share it.
