FEMA Urges Seniors Impacted by Sandy to Apply for Disaster Assistance
Disaster assistance is not counted as income, and it is not taxed.
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) officials are urging seniors impacted by Superstorm Sandy to apply for disaster assisatnce, the agency announced Tuesday morning, Dec. 11.
Disaster assistance is not counted as income, and it is not taxed, FEMA officials said. It covers expenses resulting from a disaster, such as Sandy, which struck land in Atlantic City on Oct. 29.
Those who receive social security or other government benefits may be eligible for FEMA aid, even if their losses aren't covered by insurance, officials said.
Those seeking disaster assistance can register online at DISASTERASSISTANCE.GOV, by calling 1-800-621-FEMA or TTY 1-800-462-7585.
