The Freehold Sam’s Club Pharmacy is looking to make area residents healthier this weekend by offering free diabetes and vision screenings.
The screenings, which will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8, are available for Sam’s Club members and the public. Screenings will begin at 11 a.m. and will continue until 3 p.m.
Sam’s Club’s free diabetes screenings are valued at more than $150 and include:
- Glucose tests
- A1C tests (blood test for diagnosed diabetics that measures blood sugar)
- Vision tests
- Blood pressure and BMI (body mass index) tests
“Knowing the links between risk factors, choices and solutions prepares our members to better manage--or even prevent--diabetes,” said Jill Turner-Mitchael, senior vice president, Sam’s Club Health and Wellness in a press release about the upcoming screenings. “As we offer the diabetes screenings for a second year, I am reminded of Member stories where they came in for a screening or product samples and learned about a possible health problem, which led them to make an appointment with a health care provider. It is stories like this that remind us why we offer these invaluable free screenings to our communities.”
In addition to the screenings, Sam’s Club has extended its health offerings this fall to include immunizations from registered nurses that include flu and pneumonia shots, as well as shingles, chickenpox, whooping cough and 6 other vaccines. The immunization program is a collaboration between Sam’s Club and Mollen Immunization Clinics and available to anyone above the age of three.
