Freehold Borough Commemorates 10th Anniversary of 9/11

The candlelight vigil featured a reading of the names of the 147 county residents killed on Sept. 11.

Freehold residents gathered outside Borough Hall Sunday evening for a ceremony commemorating the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11. Approximately 150 people attended the event, which was organized by the Freehold Borough Human Relations Committee.

The Bethel AME Church Choir and 13-year-old Rachel Calvosa sang patriotic songs during the ceremony and retired Port Authority Police Detective Jim Kane performed “Amazing Grace” on the bagpipes.

Mayor Michael Wilson; Freehold Fire Department Chiefs Ryan Bailey, Danny Megill and John Gierlowski; Freehold First Aid & Rescue Squad Capt. Alicia Gross; and Freehold Police Department Capt. Glenn Roberts placed at wreath on Freehold Borough’s Sept. 11 memorial. The monument was designed by Park Avenue Elementary School teacher Michele Prouty’s seventh grade class in 2002.
