Freehold First Aid Squad Remembers John 'Jack' Schellenger Jr.

Schellenger was a past captain and life member. He died on Feb. 3.

 

A longtime Freehold First Aid member lost his battle with brain cancer this weekend.

According to a post on the Monmouth County Police, Fire & EMS Facebook page, John 'Jack' Shellenger Jr. lost his battle with brain cancer on Sunday, Feb. 3 at 8:30 p.m. His wife was at his side.

For over 25 years, Schellenger was a dedicated member of the Freehold First Aid Squad and was a past captain and life member. Earlier this year, the Freehold First Aid came together to help Schellenger and his family with a spaghetti dinner.

In addition to Schellenger’s time on the Freehold First Aid Squad, he had coached basketball at Freehold High School, Manasquan High School, and Marlboro High School. Prior to his sickness, Schellenger also spent his summers working for Cape May EMS, Wildwood EMS, and was a beach lifeguard.

According to the Freehold First Aid Squad website, the viewing for Schellenger will be on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at the Higgins Funeral home. His funeral is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 9 at 8:30 a.m. For more information about viewing and funeral arrangements visit the First Aid Squad website.
