Freehold Halloween Spooktacular Committee Revamps Haunted Hayrides
The new Haunted Hayrides will be held at Lake Topanemus on Saturday, Oct. 20.
Halloween is just around the corner and the all-volunteer Freehold Halloween Spooktacular Committee has scared up a new idea to revamp the annual Haunted Hayrides. Rather than taking the usual route through the streets of downtown Freehold, this year’s free hayrides will take place in a setting more conducive to scare tactics; Lake Topanemus on Pond Road.
The Freehold Halloween Spooktacular Committee invites everyone, not just Freehold Borough residents, to come out to Lake Topanemus on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 1 to 4 p.m. The Haunted Hayrides will originate at Lake Topanemus Park from the parking lot off Pond Road. There will also be a free shuttle bus to the hayrides leaving from the parking lot at the Monmouth County Courthouse beginning at 12:30 p.m.
“After conducting a site visit, we felt that the pond offered a much better atmosphere for this event. Our haunters and ghoulish skits can hide amongst the trees and foliage. You never know when someone might jump out from behind fallen logs, or thick brush,” said Committee Co-Chair Bill Anderson. “It’s a much nicer place to wait in line for your turn on the wagon ride, instead of a parking lot. It’s also a lot safer.”
The Committee is hoping this change of scenery will also bring out more creative and inspired ghouls and monsters to populate the scary images and skits along the hayride route. They are issuing an all points boo-letin for the walking dead, creatures of the night, wicked dancers, ghosts, skeletons and other creepy creatures to sign-up for a fun day of frightening and amusing unsuspecting hay riders.
If you are interested in participating as a haunter, please contact Bill Anderson directly at firstname.lastname@example.org or via phone at 732-995-2137 to volunteer.
