A Freehold Township teen is using her vocal talent to raise awareness and money for abused children.

Nicole Rodriguez, a junior at Freehold Township High School, wrote her single “Broken Heart of Gold” after hearing numerous stories of abuse and how local community centers provide relief. After recording the song, Rodriguez decided to use her single as a fundraiser for centers that help abused children by selling it online with all proceeds going to the Monmouth County Child Advocacy Center (MCCAC).

“She [Rodriguez] has demonstrated a remarkable work ethic by not only pursuing her own personal goals, but has also guided others to find joy in displaying their hidden talents,” said Michael Clawson, Rodriguez’s Drama Teacher at Barkalow Middle School. “Throughout the years working with Nicole, her passion to better the lives of others has inspired my peers and when she approached me about her new project, I told her I would try my hardest to help. Nicole sold copies of this single at her school and at community events.”

Since Rodriguez began selling “Broken Heart of Gold” she has raised over $550 for the MCCAC. The single is currently available online at amazon.com, cdbaby.com, and iTunes. To purchase "Broken Heart of Gold" click here.
