Fresh Future Takes on Childhood Obesity

Local mother battles back against childhood obesity naturally with Fresh Future.

The only New Jersey physician board certified in pediatrics and obesity medicine is working right over the Freehold border to make children healthier one-step at a time.

Dr. Jill Sharon, a mother of three and Freehold resident, has been practicing pediatrics for 10 years and has practiced obesity medicine for more than five years. However, it wasn’t until recently that Dr. Sharon decided to focus her full attention on making children healthier at Fresh Future, her own practice that specializes in developing plans to help children and adolescents take control of their health.

“I used to do pediatrics on the side but about two years ago I left the practice I was working at and opened up my own office just practicing obesity medicine because that is my passion,” said Dr. Sharon.

Focusing on patients between the ages of three and 25, Dr. Sharon spends time getting to know her clients and creates personalized eating and exercise plans.

“While I am trained to give out weight loss medication, I don’t give that. All my patients are losing weight through individualized nutrition and fitness plans, and it works,” explained Dr. Sharon. “It’s a matter of watching what you eat and learning how to balance food out. My patients are still allowed to have fun foods and fun drinks, they just learn how to balance and make good decisions when they are out of the home.”

By getting to know her patients on a personal level, Dr. Sharon is able to custom make nutrition plans that keep her patients happy while allowing them to shed the extra pounds.

“Each plan I make varies because each plan is individualized. If one patient talks to another they would be surprised at what other patients are allowed to eat and drink. Everyone is allowed different things and I really work with the children to find out what they like. My priority is that the children are happy with the plan I give them.”

With obesity affecting a large percentage of the population, Fresh Future is able to help children get healthy without hurting their family's wallets. Since Dr. Sharon is a physician board certified in pediatrics and obesity medicine she accepts all medical insurances.

Fresh Future is conveniently located off Craig Road on Rt. 9 in Manalapan. More information about Dr. Sharon and Fresh Future can be found on the office's website.
