Honor and Remember Flag Presented to Freehold Borough Council

American Legion Post 54 presented an Honor and Remember Flag to the Council on the Tuesday, Feb. 19 meeting.

The Freehold Borough Council received a special gift last week from the Freehold American Legion Post 54.

At the Tuesday, Feb. 19 council meeting, Mayor Nolan Higgins was presented with an Honor and Remember Flag, as a token to those who have given their lives for the defense of the country.

“The purpose of this flag is to create, establish and promote a nationally recognized flag that would fly continuously as a visible reminder, to all Americans, of the military lives lost in defense or our national freedoms, from our nation’s inception to the present day,” explained Carl Beams in an email.

At the meeting, members of the Freehold American Legion Post 54 filled the boardroom and applauded as Mayor Nolan Higgins accepted the flag.

“First we want to thank members of Post 54 who have presented this flag to us,” said Higgins. “We are going to find an appropriate place to fly it. We may put it on our flag out front or we may find a home for it here [in boardroom]. But it will definitely be displayed with pride and with thanks to the Post and we will fly it in recognition of those who have served.”
