iPlay America will open its doors to the public on Friday, Nov. 11 at 11:11 a.m. However, members of the local business community, officials and media were given a sneak peak at the self-styled indoor amusement park on Tuesday.

The 115,000-square-foot facility, located on Schanck Road in Freehold Township, features rides, arcade games, restaurants, and a banquet center run by a sister corporation, Encore.

The concept for the amusement park came from New Jersey businessman and iPlay founder Bob McDaid.

“Our goal was to build something safe and fun for the whole family to come to,” McDaid said.

The facility features a city streetscape and a boardwalk setting, which McDaid said was inspired by his childhood at the Jersey Shore.

The banquet center is designed for larger events such as weddings, corporate events and trade shows, while iPlay America will be available to the general public as well as birthday parties.

General admission to iPlay America is $20, which includes a $5 entrance fee and a $15 iPA Card. The iPA Card is the currency used inside the facility and can be applied to the arcade, the two-story laser tag, the go-kart track, rides and food. The restaurants, candy store and self-serve yogurt store will accept cash but game attendants and ride operators will not, according to Michael Langsner, a sales representative for iPlay America.

For more information on iPlay America and Encore, visit the company’s Web site or call 732-577-8200.

Yes, those are slot machines. But winning on the machines earns you points at the gift counter, not money.

I PAY AMERICA is too expensive! Minimum is $20 just to get in (you get a $15 card swipe and they take a $5 "general admission" fee). A Family of 4 is $80 just to walk in the door, and the $15 per card goes very fast because everything is so expensive. I brought my 4 year old on the go-kart with me, thinking it was $8/ride. Nope, they charged her to sit next to me in the same car! $16 for a go-kart ride. (Even the employees were embarrassed). Many of the skill crane are $1 per try. If you like the 3/$1 at the boardwalk, you are in for a surprise. The place looks good, but it costs so much, it could be the Taj Mahal and it just doesn't matter. I PAY AMERICA is so cost-prohibitive, it's almost offensive. Great looks, horrific pricing. Fail.

I do agree with you, Greg. Although I understand Susan's points, it's not just that it's slightly more costly than going to the boardwalk. It's obscenely expensive...especially in this day and age when people are struggling on many levels. It's gorgeous, and you can see a lot of thought, and hard work went into creating such a nice place, but the average person's pockets just aren't that deep. I hope Susan is correct, and they just have to work out certain kinks, but I have to believe that they set their price points where they have to be in order to at least break even. And, if that's the case, I can't imagine that iPlay America will bring in the amount of people it needs to to keep its doors open. I hope I'm wrong, but in the end, it's just too expensive.

Geez, they just opened, give them a chance to work out the kinks! Did you ever see a respected restaurant reviewer post a review for a restaurant based on an opening weekend experience? From a parent's perspective, I don't want just anyone coming in off the streets. Personally, I don't appreciate the crowd that some boardwalks attract and don't feel comfortable bringing my child (also 4). I'm grateful for a safe and clean place for my kid, even if the crane is a few cents more per try. Oh, and I didn't have to pay for parking right in front of the entrance, unlike a trip to the boards.

It was a bit expensive, but my family had a great time tonight. My husband actually won an IPAD 2 from a claw game! We're playing on it now. Maybe the prices will go down a bit after they become established.
