The New Jersey League of Municipalities has a scholarship opportunity for high school juniors and seniors in Freehold.
The Freehold Borough Council has teamed up with the Luis Bay 2nd Future Municipal Leaders Scholarship Competition to provide three $1,000 scholarships to participants from around the state. The theme of the contest is “What My Mayor and Governing Body Do Best”.
In order to apply for the scholarship, Freehold students are asked to fill out an application and complete a 500-word essay. Once completed, the application and essay can be dropped off at the Clerk's Office in Borough Hall. Please have the materials addressed Freehold Borough Mayor Nolan Higgins.
“With how expensive college is today, this scholarship can help offset some of the costs,” explained Freehold Borough Councilman Jaye Sims. “This scholarship is available for any student who lives in Freehold or attends a Freehold school.”
The winner from each municipality will be designated a State Semi-finalist, from there, their essay and application will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee of the New Jersey State League of Municipalities.
The deadline for this scholarship is Friday, March 8. Scholarship winners will be announced on May 3 and will be presented their award between May 7 and May 25. The application and additional scholarship information can be found in the PDF section above.
