Lost Dog: Marlboro Family Offering a Reward
The Amato family is looking for their lost terrier.
A message from Marlboro resident Laurie Amato:
Douglas is a black and white Rat Terrier and has never ran away before. We live on Crossridge Circle, right off of Ryan Road in Marlboro.
He is probably very scared as he has never ever done this before. He has no collar or microchip.
If anyone finds him please have them call (732) 546 4198. We are devastated. Huge reward if found!

You are in my prayers. I hope the baby comes home safe and sound. If I found him, I wouldn't want the reward. My reward would be that the little one is home and happy. I know I would be devastated not knowing if mine were hurt, scared or hungry. Please give an update when he comes home. Prayers out to you.

I'll share this on FB. Also, you might want to post on Craigslist as well as homeagain.com pet rescuers. They will send out emails to everyone in their database that has the same zip code or surrounding areas. I'm praying for a safe return & a happy reunion.

Hi Alexis -
Thanks for the great ideas. I have already posted on Craigslist and ,unfortunately, there have been no sightings! Just tried homeagain.com and while it appears to be a wonderful site - the dog must be micro-chipped to report a lost pet.
My family and I greatly appreciate all the support, advise and prayers. Hopefully, we will have some good news to report very soon.
Best Regards,
Laurie

Hi Everyone –
Quick update – In an effort to ease my family’s devastation, my Aunt had a Pet Physic contact us. She spoke to my Mom for over ½ hour and (whether you are a believer or not) she came up with some very interesting points that may help find Douglas.
- He ran to right (which would be the Orchards and where witnesses said he was last seen).
- He is might be near a koi pond (I have one in my backyard)
- He hides in a dark place and walks to try and get back home
- He is within a 5 mile radius of my house
- He is still alive
So – if anyone is within a 5 mile radius of Crossridge Circle and knows of anyone that has a koi pond – please be on the look-out. It may be a bit crazy but it’s worth a shot! This didn’t cost a lot of money so even if it is a bit farfetched it still gives us a glimmer of hope and brought a smile to my Mom’s face.
Thanks Everyone!!!

Don't give up hope. We live in Morganville and our pomeranian was missing for 5 days. She survived for 5 days in the adjacent woods and surfaced on Tennent Rd. She was found due the flyers and petfinder. Get the word out every where. Check every local vet and shelter each day for updates. Also, walk any woods even remotely near your property and call for him. We were advised to leave pet bedding outside our house so that she may find her scent easier. Any rains can block their scenting ability. He may be struggling to find his way, but little dogs can do amazing things. My pom was an old and a very spoiled indoor dog and she found her way back during the hot summer. I have never been as sure of miracles as the day I found her. Keep believing and posting flyers. We are praying for his return :)

In addition, if you haven't already, drive around your neighborhood at different times if you can, to see if someone is out walking with the dog. Maybe an elderly person or someone that does not go on facebook or the patch brought the dog in or found the dog on their property. Or someone who just does't want to give the dog back. You would be surprised at how often that happens. Not all people are honest. I hope you do find the little guy.

Fed up, funny you mentioned an elderly person finding Douglas! I was thinking the same thing. I was thinking that maybe Douglas wandered into the Greenbriar development. Good idea as you mentioned, drive through that area and the other immediate areas to see if someone is taking him for a walk. Good luck Amato family, hope you get Douglas back soon!

Hi everyone - still no sighting of my beautiful boy. My son, Ryan, went to Greenbriar and put posters all around. Anthony (Marlboro Animal Control) and Dave (Manalapan Animal Control) have all been alerted and have the posters put up in their office. We also call the animal shelters every day. Any ideas or advise that has been suggested we have taken and greatly appreciate! Trying not to give up but - tomorrow is a week and truthfully – as much as we try -it's very hard to remain optimistic.
I just want to let everyone know that all the concern, support, suggestions and prayers being offered by the community have really helped us through this difficult time. It is so nice to know that we have a community of people behind us and there are many sets or eyes out there looking for my baby! Once again - THANK YOU!!!

Have you tried www.findtoto.com? It's a paid service which sends out phone messages to an area you designate. I don't know how well it works, but it might be worth trying.

Laurie ---- Insight from previous Pet Physics on other Lost Dogs have been very helpful as I help in the searches & have always read the criteria. I live in Marlboro & in my travels daily travel thru there, searching. Regarding property searches, sheds, under decks, any partial or enclosed area can be a place to hide and sleep so neighbors all over need to check their outside structures. Water is important so any place of access can be where he drinks. As for a house to house search it is possible he was taken in by a person without facebook & who can not see the flyers. Any property with other dogs or animals should be checked since he may take up residence where there are others since dogs are pack animals and can find safety with them. The Woods in the area must be checked since dogs will run there away from people and cars & hunt food & nature takes over to protect them. Dogs like to chase deer & some past ones stayed near herds for comfort. Prayers & Thoughts for Douglas to be Homeward Bound !!!!

Hi - Have registered Douglas with www.findtoto.com. Hope all my Marlboro friends don't get annoyed with the phone calls!
Arlene - Thank you so much!! My son has been hanging on to every word the physic has said and now he will read and re-read your post a million times with the hope that it will help find him!
Joann - My Aunt and Uncle live in Greenbriar and I am so happy to know that Greenbriar is aware of my Dougie. Thank you!!

Findtoto.com was a bust! In my opinion, if anyone is ever in this situation - avoid this type of service. I feel it offered no value. Truthfully - dealing with Kaitlyn and the rest of you wonderful people in the community is the best way to go! Please keep praying that we find closure to this nightmare!

Hi Laurie! Don't give up! Stay positive! My dog was missing for 12 days, we just found him on 1/4/13. He was staying with my in-laws across town the weekend before Christmas when he pulled out of his collar. Rain is actually good for scents, sunlight and dry conditions are not. Please feel free to contact me at wonderpup26@AOL.com maybe I could help.

Thank you HRH! We did another Per Amber Alert hoping to reach a much larger audience. Got a phone call last night from a very nice gentleman in Ryan Meadows that said his son might have seen him around 8:30am at the bus stop near Annette Road. We went looking all through that neighborhood last night and today and saw nothing. We are all still praying that our Douglas comes home to us soon.

Hi Cindy - I have posted hundreds of signs in the last 2 weeks but not sure how many are left. I also went through many of the neigborhoods and placed them on all the cars. He is shy and skiddish. :-(

Laurie, have you thought of trying a pet detective? I'm friendly with a rescue group that had one of their foster dogs bolt when they were trying to put it into the car. They put up flyers, had organized searches, etc., with no luck. After 2-3 weeks of trying everything, they hired a pet detective from Pennsylvania & within a few days, he captured the dog. This is a dog that came from another state, was feral & terrified. It was quite amazing to watch the whole process unfold. It's not cheap but it was well worth it.

Hi, Laurie. I haven't read this whole email thread, so I'm sorry if I'm repeating something you already know. But I heard the 2 most effective things for finding a lost dog are:
1 - Posting large signs with just key info at major intersections. Supposedly this works better than flyers.
2 - Writing on your car back windsheld key info. Have some of your friends do this too if possible.
Hope this helps and I hope you find your dog very, very soon. Don't give up hope.

Hi Kathy, Petra and Michelle -- Thanks for all the suggestions. With the exception of the pet detective we have tried almost everything mentioned. The Animal Control officer in Marlboro calls me once a week to check in and see if we have found him. I have been calling Helmetta every day and have given them my flyer with the hope that maybe Manalapan/Freehold Animal Control will find him. With the all the freezing weather we have had and with it being almost 4 weeks that my little guy is gone we have little hope of finding him alive and now we would just like closure. So -please be on the look out for anything you may see on the side of the road that may be a dog. I know it sounds morbid and may sound strange but knowing for sure that he has crossed over to Rainbow Bridge would stop us from looking every time we go out walking or driving. It is such stress and anxiety and I wouldn't wish this type of pain on my worst enemy. Many thanks to all of you who have taken the time to post and offer support and suggestions. It is greatly appreciated and really helped knowing there are caring people out there that love animals as much as I do.

Hi Laurie, I'm not sure if this was mentioned, but did you give the mail carrier, paper delivery person, meter readers, and any contractors your flyer?
Also, put a shirt that you slept in, sealed in a ziploc bag, so you scent stays on. This way, when you go to the area where he may be, take the shirt out, and he'll know it's you.
You may be able to try a tracking service. Try Lisa Nazarenko on FB. She can give you a lot of info, too.
Good Luck!

He wasnt lost as a result of the hurricane (atleast dont think so) but will post him there to see if we get any new leads. Another tip includes putting sign and flyers available in your Front Yard -- MISSING DOG -- that way people know to keep lookiing for him as people drive around your neighborhood. Churches, pharmacies, and grocery stores are also helpful places to post. One of our hurricane cats had been taken in by nice elderly couple who didnt do internet and didn't drive much -- but they went to church and saw post and kitty was home that evening. Prayers he is safe and warm and home soon!!! My Best, Trish

Hi Debbie -
Bad news is: the dog you saw was not Douglas. :-(
Good news is: I just spoke to Anthony at animal control and he caught the dog you saw near the A & P.
He is a Jack Russell and is now at the Helmetta animal shelter. Just thought I would let you know that the dog is now safe and hopefully he will be returned with his owner.

Hi Laurie,
Our house cat got out once. We put up flyers and went searching for 5 days. One suggestion was to put his carrier outside with unwashed clothing of the person he sat on or next to most often. I had nothing to lose, so I did it. That night he did find his way back. It may have been a coincidence but I'll always wonder. I really hope your baby comes home. Keeping my eyes open.
