Mosquito Season Is Here

A list of five things you need to know Friday, July 1.

Weather

Friday will be mostly sunny with a high near 82 degrees and a low of 62, according to the National Weather Service.

Saturday will also be sunny with a high of 88 and a low of 68.

There is a 30 percent chance of rain Sunday afternoon. The high will be near 91 and the overnight low will be 68.

The Fourth of July will be mostly sunny with a high of 88 and an overnight low of 69.

(Not So) Happy Mosquito Week

Muggy New Jersey weather means one thing: mosquitoes. The Monmouth County Mosquito Extermination Commission is marking National Mosquito Control Awareness Week, Sunday, June 26 through Saturday, July 2, by asking residents to help combat those little buggers by inspecting their properties for standing water.

The Center for Disease Control recommends taking the following steps to avoid getting bitten:

• When outdoors, apply insect repellent following the label instructions, especially for use on children.

• Wear long-sleeve shirts and long pants whenever possible.

• Avoid outdoor activity at peak mosquito times – dusk and dawn.
