Number of Freehold Outages Decreasing

JCP&L outage map has shown lower outage numbers throughout Friday.

While the majority of Freehold is still without power, progress has been made and can be seen on the JCP&L outage map.

The overall number of outages varied throughout Friday, but as of 4 p.m. 1,000 more people in Freehold had power on Friday than they did on Thursday. At 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Freehold Township had 10,993 outages, at 4 p.m. on Friday outage numbers dropped to 9,900. Areas of Freehold Borough also saw power on Friday as numbers went from 3,935 on Thursday to 3,638 on Friday.

The JCP&L outage map did not specify which areas regained power, however areas of Rt. 9 and Jackson Mills Road were identified by Freehold Township Police as areas where power was being restored.

In an update from the Freehold Township Committee, JCP&L is currently working on two electrical substations; the Freehold and Jerseyville substations. According to the update, these two stations will have a major impact on turning a number of customers back on-line. Freehold customers on the Colts Neck substation, in the north east part of the Township may not have service until Sunday or later.

So they are restoring power at a rate of 1,000 per day and there are 9,000 customers still out? This is good?

The rate is actually higher than 1,000 per day in "some" areas. It appears the township gets faster restoration in comparison to the borough.

I've been monitoring the outages and noticed that Freehold Township went from approximately 14,5000 to 10,000 over the space of two days, yet Freehold Borough went from approximately 4,500 to 3,900 in the same time. So that's about 31% of power restored to the township and only about 13% for the borough in the same amount of time.

At the time of this post, the township is at 5,400 households still out and the borough at 1,400. So the amount of customers who received power in the township over the course of the last three days was 10,000 whereas in the borough it was merely 3,000. Is there rhyme or reason for this? Not sure.

Does the intersection of Rt 9 and Schanck Rd have power?

What about Silvermead where most of the senior citizens live in Freehold Township, still no power or heat for the elderly, what is the priority of this township????

If these substations have a major impact, shouldn't they have been a priority? Why are we hearing about it today? Does patch ask questions or do you just pass on information?

Juan, I agree with you; these substations should have been targeted as a priority. Additionally, since JCPand L identifies customers with all electric service, such as the majority of the communities housing our elderly residents, shouldn't these customers be a priority as well?? At least those with natural gas can cook and obtain hot water.

Fewer than 300 in one day in Freehold Borough? What exactly are the problems here? Trees/lines? Alli, if you can, please held shed light on this. I have a family from the borough staying with me and although they're happy to have heat and some semblance of normlacy, they miss home and are worried. Thank you.

The borough is not receiving power at the same rate that the township is. (See my post above.) My guess is that it's due to the density of the borough in terms of the close proximity of the power poles to houses, trees, and other structures.

I understand you are all frustrated that the power is still out, I too am sitting in the dark and believe me it is really getting old. The purpose of this article was to show that while it may be slow, progress is being made in Freehold. I know that CentraState Hospital was made a priority to JCP&L and so that was taken care of first. The substations mentioned by Freehold Township are now a priority but there were others first. I have been traveling all over during the outages and have seen many line crews and local police working countless hours to get Freehold back up and running. As for Freehold Borough, my understanding is that crews are having a hard time getting there due to the many down trees. Areas of Township are right near major roadways like Rt. 9 so there is better accessibility there. I am communicating as best I can with those who may have answers in these conditions and will continue to post updates as quickly as I can. If you hear any news you can always email me at allison.mechanic@patch.com. Stay well and stay warm and thank you for posting on Freehold Patch!

Makes sense. The township is much more spread out, so access to the lines is probably much easier.

ED, I hope you find somewhere to go soon. Check with co-workers or neighbors. There must be someone you know who can take you in for the nights. You and your baby should not be suffering this way. Being in the cold takes a lot of your strength.

Shank road does not have power, neither does stillwells corner rd, elton adlephia rd, the developments that still don't have power are monmouth heights, stonehurst and college park. There are many more still without power over on our side.

@ ed I think that is our substation 6 which the estimated date is the longest to get up and running. So by november 12th but it could be much sooner because they are working night and day to restore everyones electricity. From what we were told for our substation that is the freehold Township / colts neck sub it was damaged very badly.

If the substation is damaged badly, why doesn't JCP&L replace it. I am sure their insurance would cover the cost of replacement.

PR nightmare for JCP&L. Shouldn't their disaster recovery plan have included a public explanation of how power gets restored? The lights and businesses along Rt.9 have been out as long as five plus days already. Looking around the inland areas and not seeing much utility damage we ask why. Same for many of our inland towns. We needed more and better updates as to what was broken and what was needed to fix it. We got not a word.

Elton Manor Estates in Freehold Township has been in the dark 7 days now and counting! We here maybe Wednesday, Thursday or Friday now! Now directly across the street on the same block the power went out on 10/29 hours after mine went out and came back on 11/4 @ 6am. What's wrong with this picture? For 20 years now Freehold Township has had power outages which continues to get worse. JCP&L needs to start looking at their infrastructure in Freehold Township or changing grids
ASAP. My heart goes out to the folks that lost everything! That said there is NO reason why on the same block that some have and some do not! I encourage the Governor to question JCP&L and come up with a plan!
