Prosecutor's Office: Monmouth Golf Ranger Stole Greens Fees
Jackson resident allegedly embezzled over $3,000.
A Monmouth County employee is accused of pocketing some green while working on the greens.
Carol Hobbs, 34, is allegedly embezzled over $3,000 in greens fees while working as a golf ranger at the Charleston Springs Golf Course in Millstone. Authorities arrested the Jackson resident on Thursday on a third-degree theft charge following an investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO).
As part of her duties at the golf course, Hobbs was responsible for maintaining the cash register in the pro shop, collecting greens fees and managing the schedule of golfers.
Hobbs allegedly modified transaction so that it appeared a golfer received a refund when they had not asked for or received one. An audit revealed some $3,000 had been taken from September 2012 through December 2012, according to a press release from the MCPO.
Hobbs earned $37,564 in her role for the county and has worked as a public employee since 2001, state pension information indicates.
Hobbs is being held at Monmouth County Correctional Institution on $5,000 bail.
