Volunteer to Help Post-Sandy Clean-Up Efforts
Gov. Chris Christie has activated the New Jersey volunteer emergency response hotline (1-800-JERSEY-7).
If you'd like to lend a hand in the post-Sandy clean-up, the state of New Jersey volunteer emergency response hotline has been activated.

If you'd like to lend a hand in the post-Sandy clean-up, the state of New Jersey volunteer emergency response hotline has been activated.
"This hotline was established earlier this year to enhance the state's emergency responsiveness by harnessing New Jerseyans' strong spirit of service," according to a press release from the office of Governor Chris Christie.
The number to call is 1-800-JERSEY-7 (1-800-537-7397); backup hotline numbers are: 609-775-5236 or 908-303-0471. Leave a message if your call is not immediately answered with your name, contact information, place of residence, skill set, and availability. You can also e-mailrowena.madden@sos.state.nj.us with this information.
Trained volunteer affiliated with emergency response organizations are asked to contact their respective agencies to receive assignments.

I live in California but my parents live in Howell, nj. I have not heard from them as I am sure they are without power. How are the conditions on Claire Circle?

If anyone has news on Matawan, pls comment!! Haven't heard from my cousin Sandy in 36 hours.. She's a somewhat techno geek.. I'm sure she woulda found 6 ounces of power by now just to post an "IM OK" message...

I live in Matawan, but got caught up by Sandy while visiting family in Southern Maryland. Have had intermittent contact with my husband in Matawan. He reported there in no electricity in town...Police are patrolling and keeping everyone safe by going door to door and advising people to stay home if at all possible. Some houses in town where damaged by trees. JCPL reported that about 4,955 people are without power in Matawan...it may be anywhere from eight days to two weeks before power is restored. That's all I know...hope this help.

Can anyone volunteer? I have minimal ' trained ' experience in nuring assisting, but obviously can help with volunteer clean up. I have been out of work the week due to power outage & want to do something constructive & help those affected in my area. Seaside & Point have been my childhood & adult playground & I desperately want to give my time to help clean up & rebuild.

Former Military and maintenance tech, and dad with 40 years in construction are heading to Point Pleasant on Monday with a generator, food, water, gas with truck and trailer and ready to help wherever needed. I am sick about the devastation left by Sandy. I spend my summer days in NJ enjoying the beaches. I have time off this week and like Lori B said I want to do something constructive to help out.
