The winner of the Downtown Freehold Photo Contest is Elizabeth Slade’s picture of a firefighter’s equipment on Main St. after the Freehold Borough Fire Department fought a blaze at Freehold Liquors on a particularly hot day last summer.

The second place winner is Gene Zonis for his photo of the memorial for Freehold fallen World War II soldiers.

The third place winner is Jayne Carr for her photos of jack-o-lanterns on the steps of the Hall of Records.

Elizabeth will receive a Patch water bottle and Gene and Jayne will receive Patch tote bags.

Government Meetings

The Freehold Borough Council will hold a workshop meeting at Borough Hall on Monday at 7 p.m. The meeting agenda includes a discussion of the capital needs of the fire department and a vote on the introduction of the municipal budget.

The Freehold Township Board of Education will hold a meeting at Freehold Township Schools offices on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Freehold Township Committee will hold a meeting at Town Hall at 8 p.m.

The Freehold Borough Planning Board will meet at Borough Hall on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Freehold Township Parks and Recreation Commission will meet at the Michael J. Tighe Park Activity Center at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders will hold a workshop meeting at 2 p.m. Thursday and a regular meeting at 7 p.m. at Shrewsbury Borough Hall. The freeholders are expected to vote on the 2011 budget. The Freehold Township Zoning Board of Adjustment will meet at Town Hall on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

High School Sports

Colonials baseball and softball play scrimmages at Holmdel at 3:45 p.m. Monday. At 4 p.m., Patriots baseball faces Old Bridge at home while girls lacrosse take on Red Bank Catholic away.

Patriots baseball plays Brick Township at home at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Colonials softball faces Manalapan at home at 3:30 p.m., while baseball takes the field at 3:45 p.m. Boys lacrosse plays Old Bridge away at 4 p.m., while the girls team takes on Monmouth Regional away at that time.

Colonials boys volleyball plays Howell away at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.

On Friday, Colonials softball plays Howell away at 3:30 p.m. Boro boys tennis plays Wall at home at 3:30 p.m., and the baseball team also takes the field at home at 3:45 p.m. Patriots boys and girls track compete in Long Branch at 3:45 p.m. Freehold Township baseball plays Rumson away at 4 p.m. and softball takes on Matawan at home at 4 p.m.

Spring Has Sprung at the Freehold Public Library

Celebrate spring at the Freehold Public Library on Monday from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Children in Kindergarten and above are invited to create a spring-themed craft. Younger children must be accompanied by an adult. No registration is required. Call 732-462-5135 for more information.
