While some of the costs associated with recovering and rebuilding from the impact of our recent storms are covered by insurance, unfortunately, some of them are not. For those situations when a loss is not covered by insurance, disaster assistance may be available from FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
To find out more about disaster assistance including if you qualify, how to apply, and what’s covered, you can:
- Go online to www.disasterassistance.gov
- Using a smartphone go to m.fema.gov
- Call 800-621-3362 or
- Call TTY 800-462-7585 for anyone with speech
or hearing disabilities
According to the FEMA website, however you apply, you’ll need to have the following information available:
- Your social security number
- Current and pre-disaster address
- A telephone number where you can be reached
- Information on your insurance (company name,
policy number) - Total household annual income
- A description of your losses caused by the
disaster
