The Garden State Players recently finished its first year with the three sucessful shows, including two family musicals. Its first show of the 2012-13 year will be a children's play, “You Have to Wear Green on Tuesday…and Other Bits of Teenage Wisdom.”
Auditions for children in grades 1-8 will be held 4-7 p.m. Sept. 22 at The Cullen Center, 1776 Union Ave., Hazlet. Actors will be given scenes to read at auditions, so there is nothing to prepare.
Rehearsals will be held 4-7 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays. The play will be performed Nov. 30 – Dec 2 and will include a holiday toy drive for the R.A.I.N.E. Foundation, serving the Bayshore area. The cast will work in a collective collaborative process to help create and mount this show. They will also be required to assist in three light fundraising efforts.
“You Have to Wear Green on Tuesday…and Other Bits of Teenage Wisdom” touches on tween social issues like bullying, rumors, peer pressure, divorce, cyber bullying, dating, and anorexia to name a few. Playwright Deanna Ableser interviewed several middle school students when developing this script.
