Downtown Concert Series Presents Bridget Kibbey, Harp
CONCERTGOERS CAN JOIN IN HURRICANE RELIEF EFFORT OF THE DOWNTOWN CONCERT SERIES AT CONCERT FEATURING HARPIST BRIDGET KIBBEY
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2012 AT 2:25PM
The Downtown Concert Series is very grateful for the support we have received from the community for the past two seasons. In this time of recovery, after the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy in our area, we would like to bring the community together again with the joy of music performed by harpist Bridget Kibbey.
We hope the concert is an opportunity to bring some normalcy to our lives, to help our community and to give thanks to the many people that have been working so hard on our behalf. As a thank you we are offering complimentary tickets to first responders and utility workers. They can acquire tickets the night of the performance by showing their IDs. Those that want to help local relief organizations can acquire a discounted $10 ticket for the concert with a contribution of a bag of non-perishable items.
“Blazing power and graceful finesse, innovative and imaginative, rarefied beauty”…these words capture the brilliant music of Bridget Kibbey who is redefining the role of the harp for audiences around the globe. She is a recipient of the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, and winner of Concert Artist Guild’s International Competition and Astral Artist Auditions, and now performs for the Downtown Concert Series at St. Peter’s Church in Freehold, NJ on Saturday, November 17th at 7:30 pm.
Lauded for her artistry and ability to captivate audiences, harpist Bridget Kibbey “makes it seem as though her instrument had been waiting all its life to explode with the gorgeous colors and energetic figures she was getting from it (New York Times).”
Ms. Kibbey is a graduate of The Juilliard School, where she studied with Nancy Allen. She is on the harp faculties of Bard Conservatory, New York University, and the Juilliard Pre-College program. Bridget’s debut album, Love is Come Again, was named one of 2007’s Top Ten Releases by Time Out New York. Ms. Kibbey’s solo performances have been broadcast on NPR’s Performance Today, New York’s WQXR, WNYC’s Soundcheck, WETA’s Front Row Washington, WRTI’s Crossover, and A&E’s Breakfast with the Arts. She has collaborated with an array of artists in repertoire new and established, including Ian Bostridge, David Krakauer, Jaime Laredo, Edgar Meyer, Mayumi Miyata, Cristina Pato, Sharon Robinson, David Shifrin, and the Calder and Jupiter Quartets. She is frequently featured with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, is the founding harpist of the International Contemporary Ensemble and Metropolis Ensemble, and often performs with the Knights Chamber Orchestra and world music trio MAYA.
“Ms. Kibbey, a performer who seems to revel in the sheer physicality required to coax a vast range of exacting expression from her stately instrument, was a delight to watch and to hear…And Ms. Kibbey was a marvel once more, her dramatic sweeps and robust lines repeatedly cause for shivers…” New York Times).
The Downtown Concert Series, currently in its 3rd season, presents extraordinary musical artists in the historic and intimate venue of St. Peter’s Church. “Once again we are so pleased to present an artist that stretches the experience of our listeners and allows them to encounter the uniqueness and beauty of the harp in the hands of a true master. Bridget Kibbey truly brings ‘rarefied beauty’ to the stage, and it’s a privilege to host her in this series,” said Gail Reilly, chair of the Downtown Concert Series.
Tickets for the concerts are $25 and $10 for students 18 years and younger. Seating is limited and tickets should be purchased in advance. A post-concert reception will be hosted by Investors Bank (21 West Main Street, Freehold) following the concert.

More About St Peter's Episcopal Church
The first members of St. Peter's worshipped in a Quaker meeting house near Marlboro, N.J. in 1702. The cornerstone of a simple church on Throckmorton Street was laid in 1771, and later embellished to the more gothic style evident today. The church offers three services on Sundays: a quiet 7:45am service; a family service at 9am with traditional hymns and informal worship songs in gospel, folk, rock or jazz traditions; and a traditional sing and response service at 11am without Holy Communion. A Spanish-language service is available on Saturday nights. In addition to children's and adults' vocal and handbell choirs, the church has a praise band, Peter's Rock. Active in local and worldwide outreach, St. Peter's Episcopal Church is a member of the Episcopal Diocese of New Jersey and the worldwide Anglican Communion.
