DESCRIPTION:\nMacculloch Hall Historical Museum in partnership with theNe
 w Jersey Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee (NJCW150) presents a major
 exhibit\, &ldquo\;Gone for a Soldier:&rdquo\; Jerseymenin the Civil War\
 , which is on view at the museum until July 1\, 2012. Thisexhibit commem
 orates the participation and heroism of Jerseymen in a major turningpoin
 t in U.S.history.\n\nUntil now\, many of the stories of the major contri
 butions ofJerseymen to the Civil War effort have remained untold. &ldquo
 \;Gone for a Soldier:&rdquo\;Jerseymen in the Civil War makes a major co
 ntribution toward telling thesestories. The exhibit brings together for 
 the first time nearly two hundred objectsfrom the Civil War from over th
 irty museums\, historical societies\, and privatecollections. Among the 
 many objects in the exhibit illustrating thesignificance of Jerseymen&rs
 quo\;s actions in the Civil War is an 1862 bullet struckcanteen\, on loa
 n from the Cape&nbsp\; May County Museum. LowerTownship resident Swain R
 eeves was acorporal in Company A\, 7th N.J. Volunteer Infantry and was w
 ounded at Gettysburg in July\, 1863 and again at Petersburg in June\, 18
 64. The last woundconfined him to Lincoln Hospital in Washington\, D.C. 
 and he was discharged fromthe service in October\, 1864. Reeves credited
  his canteen for deflecting thebullet that struck him at Petersburgand p
 reventing an even more severe injury.\n\nAlso on exhibit is an 1863 wool
  Hussar jacket from the 3rdN.J. Cavalry on loan from a private collectio
 n. Christened "The 1st U. S.Hussars" the 3rd NJ Volunteer Cavalry&rsquo\
 ;s eye-catching and distinctlyEuropean uniform was based on those worn b
 y the troopers of Austria. Due to its extra trimmingsand decorations\, t
 he uniform cost $3 more than the standard cavalry garb.Understandably\, 
 the horsemen from New&nbsp\; Jersey were nicknamed "the butterflies" byt
 heir comrades. However\, the regiment proved to be adept fighters and sa
 w hardservice with the Cavalry Corps of the Army of the Potomac in the S
 henandoahValley and through to the war's end at Appomattox.\n\nMacculloc
 h Hall Historical Museum has its ownconnections to Civil War history. Li
 ndley Hoffman Miller\, son of U.S. SenatorJacob Miller and grandson of G
 eorge and Louisa Macculloch\, led the FirstRegiment of Arkansas Voluntee
 rs of African Descent.&nbsp\; Commissioned as a captain in 1863\, Miller
 shared his war experience through letters to his family\, which are on s
 pecialdisplay at the museum this February.&nbsp\; Themuseum also holds t
 he largest single collection of Thomas Nast original worksin the United 
 States.Among this collection are many of Nast&rsquo\;s drawings of Civil
  War subjects such asA Gallant Color-Bearer (Harper&rsquo\;s Weekly\, Se
 ptember 20\, 1862) and The DrummerBoy of Our Regiment in Action (Harper&
 rsquo\;s Weekly\, December 19\, 1863)\, which weregenerally thought to i
 nfluence the course of the war.\n\nA Civil War Lecture Series in conjunc
 tion with the exhibitwill be held monthly.&nbsp\; Full details aboutthe

 squicentennial Committee\, commemorating the150th anniversary of the Ame
 rican Civil War\, a volunteerorganization working for increased awarenes
 s and recognition of New Jersey&rsquo\;s important role in the Civil war
 \, has beenrecognized by the New Jersey Governor and both houses of the 
 New Jersey legislature.\n\nMacculloch Hall Historical Museum preserves t
 hehistory of the Macculloch-Miller families\, the Morrisarea community\,
  and the legacy of its founder W. Parsons Todd through itshistoric site\
 , collections\, exhibits\, and educational and cultural programs. TheMus
 eum is open to tour the house and view exhibits on Wednesdays\, Thursday
 s&amp\; Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. General Admission: Adults $8\; Seniors
