SHOFARON: A FREE WORKSHOP FOR ALL SHOFAR SOUNDERS
Join us at the Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County for a unique opportunity – a free Shofar workshop (including a light kosher lunch) for sounders of all skill levels, plus those who don’t play but want to learn more. On Sunday, March 3, 2013, from 12-3 PM, you’ll have an opportunity to share your customs with fellow sounders in central New Jersey.
Cantor and Shofar teacher Daniel Pincus will lead us in our discovery of what the Torah and later authorities over the centuries tell us about this practice. He’ll review traditional guidelines and rules for sounding the calls, creating a beautiful and proper sound, how the instrument is made and from what animals, and many more topics.
“Master blaster” and teacher Cantor Daniel Pincus has taught Shofar classes at New York and New Jersey area synagogues, the Jewish Theological Seminary, and at the Hebrew Union College. He is also a founding member of Shofarcorps (www.shofarcorps.org).
Admission is free and includes a light kosher lunch, but reservations are required. Please call the Museum at 732-252-6990. A suggested donation of $18 will support the Shofarcorps, as well as a special Superstorm Sandy Person-to-Person Relief Project. For further information about this workshop program, please contact workshop host Richard Sachs at 732-495-2739. Sachs is Monmouth Reform Temple’s master blaster and an experienced French horn player. This event is sponsored by an adVENTURE grant from the Jewish Federation of Monmouth County.
