Doesn’t Everyone Deserve a Second Chance?
Enjoy a Cup of Tea and Discuss with the Lovely Ladies of Center Players’ “THE CEMETERY CLUB.”

Center Playhouse has been filled with the sounds of giggling and chatting about dating, men, and buying secondhand furs. Passers by thought they were listening to a bunch of gal pals in their early 30s but upon entering they stumble upon rehearsals for The Cemetery Club, Center Players current production launching their 2012/13 season, which opens on October 26th and runs through November 18th at Freehold’s award-winning resident theater company.

Three Jewish widows meet once a month for tea before going to visit their husband's graves. Ida is sweet tempered and ready to begin a new life, Lucille is a feisty embodiment of the girl who just wants to have fun, and Doris is priggish and judgmental. While their personalities suggest differently, their bonds are strong after years of triple dating on cruises, leaning on one another for support when times grew dark, and now, visiting their husbands at the cemetery. But what happens when Sam, an attractive kind butcher enters the scene and meets the ladies while visiting his wife at the cemetery?

“The Cemetery Club touches upon a multitude of emotions, and is sure to make an audience giggle, as well as connect and relate to the situations these women are going through” says director Bernice Garfield-Szita of Manalapan. Doesn’t everyone deserve a second chance? Does grieving ever end? Who better to stumble through these questions with then the ladies who know you best? The production features Eve Connolly (Lawrenceville), Colleen DeFelice (Colts Neck), Phyllis Engelman (Freehold), Harvey Rothman (Matawan), Jill Zaitchik (Colts Neck) and is proudly sponsored by the Mt. Sinai Cemetery & Mausoleum of Marlboro, NJ.

Center Players, celebrating their 12th year in the heart of Freehold, has proven once again it knows its audience and has chosen to present another production which plays upon many emotions and leaves you appreciating the humanity of theatre. Their ambitious year ahead includes a season which boasts the return of their popular live holiday radio play Miracle On 34th Street, the delightful musical I Do! I Do!, Neil Simon’s hysterical biographical comedy Laughter On the 23rd Floor, and the award-winning The Diary of Anne Frank.

The Cemetery Club opens at Center Playhouse, located at 35 South Street in downtown Freehold, on October 26th and runs through November 18th with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 PM and Sundays at 2:00 PM. Don't miss the special Saturday matinee on November 17th at 2:00 PM! Tickets are $25 for Adults and $23 for Seniors & Students and include gourmet desserts and refreshments.
