Italian American Festival Kicks Off Tonight

A look at events happening in and around Freehold on Wednesday August 20, 2013.

The Freehold Raceway Mall will transform into a little bit of Italy over the next few nights as the Italian American Festival comes to town.

From 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. tonight through Saturday there will be rides, food, music and other entertainment in the parking lot near Dick’s Sporting Goods. For $20 on Wednesday night participants can enjoy unlimited rides.

The National Weather Service is predicting a nice night overall with just a slight chance of showers over the next few days. The sun should be today making for a nice time at the farmer’s market at CentraState Medical Center. A high of 88 on a sunny day will make way for a low of 68 tonight with just a 20 percent chance of showers.

Today is also National Senior Citizen’s Day, so if you have an older neighbor or relative be sure to be extra nice to them on their special day.

On this date in 1959 President Dwight Eisenhower proclaimed Hawaii the 50th state of the union. Local musical legend Count Basie was also born on this date in 1904. Today is also the 75th birthday for musician Kenny Rogers.
