Tuesday Tree Lighting Set for Freehold

A look at events happening in Freehold on Tuesday December 3, 2013.

The menorah was lit in front of the Hall of Records on Monday night and on Tuesday residents will once again gather in the downtown area for the annual tree lighting celebration.

Holiday fun is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. and run until 7 p.m. as the two symbols stand next to each other in the heart of Freehold Borough.

Also on Tuesday the Freehold Art Society Holiday Exhibit and Sale is scheduled to start at the New Jersey Resources Building in Wall. The exhibit is in the building’s cafeteria on the second floor and is open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The National Weather Service is calling for a partly sunny day with a high of around 52 degrees. As the sun goes down and the tree gets lit the temperature could dip to around 36 degrees on a mostly clear night. There is a developing chance of snow for the weekend, likely starting around Sunday according to the latest forecast.

On this date in 1818 Illinois was admitted as the 21st state and 10 years later Andrew Jackson was elected president. Famous birthdays today include actress Julianne Moore, rock legend Ozzy Osbourne and actress Daryl Hannah.
