ZUMBATHON FRIDAY IN FREEHOLD

A look at events happening in Freehold on Friday November 22, 2013.

Thanksgiving and the first night of Hanukkah are now less than a week away and two groups at Freehold High School want to help local residents stay in shape before devouring some of their favorite foods.

The school’s dance team and sophomore class will be holding a ZUMBATHON starting at 4:30. For just $5 participants will get a full hour of exercise with proceeds from the event helping the two groups as well as a Thanksgiving food drive at the school.

The National Weather Service is calling for a 40 percent chance of showers on an otherwise cloudy day with a high of 58 expected. More rain could fall tonight when the low temperature is expected to drop to around 39 degrees. The low tonight is actually higher than the high expected for Sunday which the National Weather Service estimates will be near just 34 degrees on a mostly sunny breezy day.

Today marks 50 years since President John F. Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald while riding in a parade through Dallas Texas. British pirate Edward “Blackbeard” Teach was killed in a battle off the Virginia coast on this date in 1718. In music, it was on this date in 1968 at the Beatles released the “White Album.”

Famous birthdays today include musician Steve Van Zandt, tennis legend Billie Jean King and actress Jamie Lee Curtis.
