Calling on Rep. Chris Smith for Gun Sense

While Congress chooses to do nothing about gun violence, Americans continue to die every day. As 100 percent of Congressman Chris Smith’s (central New Jersey) constituency, when polled, support universal background checks, it is hard to understand why the congressman has not emerged as a leader and advocate for gun sense.I urge Congressman Smith to be a leader and co-sponsor, or at least support, HR-1565, legislation that will expand background checks for firearms on a national level.With the support of congressmen like Chris Smith who represent constituencies that support universal background checks, common-sense gun legislation can be passed and become the law of the land. Passive support will not impact the terrible reality of gun violence in our country, but active support will. With every mass shooting, as well as all the deaths due to gun violence we hear about too often, we are reminded of the inaction of our politicians when it comes to doing the right thing. I hope that Congressman Smith uses his influence, years in public service, and his own moral conscience to stand up for human life and gun sense.
