Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus Presents August Senior Community Programs

Chair Yoga
Fridays, July 25 and August 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 from 2 to 3 p.m.
Join the Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus on Fridays to “get fit while you sit” as they present Chair Yoga, a new exercise class for seniors. Led by Eileen Tremarco, Laksmi Volker Chair Yoga instructor, HHC, Chair Yoga will help you to relax your mind and body from a seated position, without the worry of getting up and down on the floor. Learn how to improve muscle tone, enhance your flexibility, increase circulation, and alleviate stiff joints, all while increasing your overall health and feeling of well being. This program will be held at the Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Physicians’ Night at the Lakewood BlueClaws
Tuesday, August 5 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Meet the health coaches from the Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and catch some minor league baseball! Learn about various upcoming events and services the health coaches provide and meet with physicians from Barnabas Health, a sponsor of the Lakewood BlueClaws. Physicians’ Night will also feature a special appearance from the ZOOperstars, a comedic, animalistic show between innings.  All seniors eat free on Tuesdays at the BlueClaws stadium – enjoy a hot dog, bag of chips and soda, as well as Baseball Bingo! Physicians’ Night will take place at the home of the Lakewood BlueClaws, First Energy Park, located at 2 Stadium Way in Lakewood. Gates open at 6 p.m. and the game starts at 7:05 p.m.; tickets are $11 in advance. For tickets or more information, please visit blueclaws.com.

Thursday, August 7 from 2 to 4 p.m.
The Center for Healthy Aging and the Department of Audiology at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus have teamed up to present Sue Ellen Boyer, AuD, FAAA, as she discusses age-related hearing loss and facts about hearing aids. Dr. Boyer will also explore common signs of hearing loss and tips on hearing loss prevention. A Hearing Health Quiz will be offered free of charge as part of the program and light refreshments will be served at this event taking place at the Ocean County Library, Jackson Branch’s first floor meeting room, located at 2 Jackson Drive in Jackson. This program is free but registration is required by calling 732-928-4400.

Tai Chi
Thursdays, August 7 through October 2 from 2 to 3 p.m.
No class August 21
The Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus is proud to announce the return of instructor Kit Lau, who has been teaching Tai Chi for more than 10 years and will instruct participants on the fine art of Tai Chi moves from both standing and sitting positions. This class is offered to all seniors despite medical conditions. Cost is $40 for eight sessions, all held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Space is limited, and registration is required by August 4 by calling 1-888-724-7123.

Osteoporosis 101: Free Bone Density Screenings
Thursday, August 21 from 2 to 4 p.m.
Osteoporosis affects men and women of all ages. The Center for Healthy Aging, in cooperation with the Pharmacy Department at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, will host a presentation on osteoporosis and discuss risk factors and how to recognize its signs and symptoms. Free bone density screenings and refreshments will be provided following the presentation, which takes place at the Ocean County Library, Jackson Branch’s first floor meeting room, located at 2 Jackson Drive in Jackson. This program is free but registration is required by calling 732-928-4400.
