Kimball Medical Center Presents March Community Health Education Programs

Diabetes Self-Management Education

Wednesdays, March 5, 12 and 19; April 2, 9 and 16; and May 7, 14 and 21 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

More than 25.8 million people in the U.S. are affected by diabetes. The Center for Healthy Living at Kimball Medical Center is piloting a new schedule for the Diabetes Self-Management Education program for March, April and May. Recognized by the American Diabetes Association, this program offers education for those living with diabetes on managing the disease so they can maintain healthy, active lives and reduce their risk for complications. Taught by registered nurses and registered dietitians – all certified diabetes educators – the program also includes a presentation by Christopher Blakeslee, DPM, a podiatrist at Kimball Medical Center. Sessions are held at Kimball’s Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. A doctor’s prescription is required. Registration is required by calling 1.888.724.7123.

Classic and Gentle Yoga for All Ages

Fridays, March 7, 14, 21 and 28

Classic: from 9 to 10:15 a.m.

Gentle: from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m.

Men and women of all ages can enjoy the benefits of increased flexibility, range of motion, energy and relaxation by participating in Friday morning classic or gentle yoga. Gentle enough for beginners and seasoned practitioners, classic yoga includes the sun salutation warrior pose and shoulder stand, and gentle yoga includes the full range of basic yoga stretches and positions. Offered by Kimball Medical Center, the classes are held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Cost is $5 per class, and space is limited. Glucose Screenings at the Center for Healthy Living

Tuesday, March 4 from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.

Do you have diabetes? The disease affects 25.8 million people – and 7 million are unaware they have diabetes. Learn your risk by joining the Center for Healthy Living at Kimball Medical Center for free glucose screenings by a registered nurse who is a Certified Diabetes Educator. Fasting is not required, but please do not eat for at least two hours before your test. Screenings are offered at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Sponsored by the Center for Healthy Living at Kimball Medical Center and the Ocean County Office of Senior Services. Registration is required by calling 1.888.724.7123.

 

 

Self-Defense for Older Adults

Tuesdays, March 11 and 25 from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m.

Learn to protect yourself from future falls through exercise, balance and strength training. A black-belt instructor will teach participants to ward-off assaults and attacks using leverage. Offered by Kimball Medical Center, this class is held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. The cost is $15 for five one-hour classes. Space is limited and registration is required by calling 1.888.724.7123.

 

Self-Defense for Men & Women of All Ages

Thursdays, March 13 and 27 from 7 to 8 p.m.

Don’t be a target. This ongoing program is for men and women of all ages who want to learn to protect themselves from personal assaults, street attacks and abductions. A black-belt instructor teaches participants to use leverage and balance to stay safe. Offered by Kimball Medical Center, this class is held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. The cost is $15 for five one-hour classes. Space is limited and registration is required by calling 1.888.724.7123.
