Detours Expected in Freehold From Railroad Repair Work

Work to be done at intersection of West Main and Throckmorton Street.

Work by the Department of Transportation (DOT) on railroad crossings at the intersection of West Main and Throckmorton Streets will impact traffic in Freehold for at least five days.

According to the DOT the intersection will be closed to traffic in both directions at the Conrail crossing that runs just west of South Street from 7 a.m. on Monday until around 7 p.m. on Friday weather permitting.

Drivers on West Main will be detoured to Route 79 and then to Park Avenue before returning on their original route. When driving on Throckmorton drivers will be taken to Broad Street, to Manalapan Avenue and then to West Main Street before heading onto West Main and then to Route 79.

The DOT said residents will still be allowed access as will business owners on either side of the railroad track. The road could be reopened sooner if the roadwork is completed faster than expected.

Work at the intersection will include a new concrete freight rail crossing bed, new tracks and the repaving of asphalt approaches. The project is expected to cost around $210,000 and is part of the DOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program.
