Freehold Borough Takes to the Basketball Court for Charity

The Neighborhood Pride Committee held the Freehold Borough March Madness Charity Basketball Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

The Neighborhood Pride Committee’s March Madness tournament may have been for charity, but that didn’t stop some healthy competition on the basketball court at Freehold High School on Friday and Saturday.

Freehold Borough Hall, Freehold Borough YMCA Community Center, the Freehold Borough Police Department and Lomurro Law Firm formed teams to compete in the committee’s first tournament. Proceeds went to World Changers, a Southern Baptist organization that provides volunteers to make home repairs. The organization visited Freehold Borough last summer and will return in July, according to Neighborhood Pride Committee Chair Debbie Keelen.

“The committee is always looking for ways to do fundraising and have some fun,” said Freehold Borough Councilman Kevin Kane, the governing body’s liaison to the Neighborhood Pride Committee. Kane had suggested the idea of the Freehold Borough March Madness Charity Basketball Tournament as a take on March Madness college basketball. The committee is considering holding a charity softball tournament in the future, Kane said. Freehold Borough can look forward to more March Madness in 2012.
