Graeme Preston Soccer Marathon to Celebrate Fifth Year

50 teams will play in the tournament held in memory of Graeme Preston's death.

Years after the tragic death of Graeme Preston, 12, of Freehold, local residents are still continuing to celebrate his life with the annual Graeme Preston Soccer Marathon.

This Saturday, Aug. 11 will mark the soccer marathon’s fifth consecutive year. While the event has grown considerably since it started, the purpose remains the same – to remember Preston’s love of the game.

“The soccer marathon was born out of a tragedy but it is a way for the community to come together,” said Nick Fasano, Chairman of the event and student.

This year, more than 50 teams will bring their soccer skills to Jackson Mills Road Soccer Complex for a day filled with soccer and fun. According to Fasano in addition to soccer there will be a 3-x-3 tournament and carnival games for all.

Although the event is in its fifth year, planning for it begins in February and involves the help of many community members and Freehold Township Police, Fire, First Aid, and Recreation Department. The marathon is Co-sponsored by the Freehold Soccer League and Freehold Township Parks & Recreation.
