Memorial Day 2011 in Freehold

Elks Point Service of Reflection

Freehold Elks Lodge #1454 will hold the Elks Point Service of Reflection at the intersection of Route 79 and Route 9. Marlboro Councilman Jeff Cantor, a Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4374 member and a lieutenant colonel in the Army. Come honor area residents who served in the armed forces and gave the ultimate sacrifice: their lives.

Memorial Day Parade

A flag-draped casket accompanied by active military will proceed down Main St. from Brinckerhoff Ave. at 9:45 a.m.  At 10 a.m., the 137th annual Freehold Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m. at W. Main St. and Brinckerhoff Ave. will serve as grand marshal of the parade. Gerald Norkus, owner Norkus Enterprises, is sponsoring a flyover of a vintage aircraft from Elks Point to Park Ave. at 10 a.m.

First Presbyterian Church is located at the start of the parade route at Brinckerhoff Ave. and W. Main St. The church’s doors will be open to parade marchers and watchers gathering in the area. Historical tours of the location will be given and music will be playing inside. Bottles of water will be available and the church will allow visitors to use their facilities.

VFW Picnic

will hold a picnic after the Freehold Memorial Day Parade on Monday starting at approximately. Members will begin cooking at 11:30 a.m. Come play a game of horseshoes or volleyball with your family, friends and neighbors.

What’s Closed?

Freehold Borough, Freehold Township and Monmouth County government offices are closed Monday. Students in the Freehold Regional High School District, Freehold Township School District and Freehold Borough School District have the day off. Post offices will be closed and no mail will be delivered on Memorial Day.
