Missing Freehold Borough Dog Returns Home

Cuda was lost hours before Hurricane Irene swept through the area.

Cuda, a two-year-old beagle-Labrador mix, is back in his Schiverea Avenue home. According to Carol Stockel, a neighbor of the dog’s owner, Cuda had been let out on a leash Saturday when his collar snapped. Hours later, Hurricane Irene swept through the Freehold area.

Stockel posted Cuda’s picture on Freehold Patch and on the Freehold Patch Facebook page Sunday afternoon, and . Dozens of you shared Cuda’s story on Facebook and Twitter and joined in searching for him.

Fortunately, Cuda had been rescued Sunday at 6 a.m. by Daniel Lovelace’s dog, Keebler. Keebler had been in the yard and led Cuda back to Lovelace’s house. She phoned the Freehold Borough Police Department about the found dog. Western Monmouth Animal Control collected Cuda Sunday afternoon.

 “He was fine when we found him. A little scared,” Lovelace said.

Lovelace and , an employee of the police department, alerted us to Cuda’s discovery. Freehold Patch subsequently contacted Stockel.

By Tuesday afternoon, Cuda’s owners had collected him from animal control. Stockel said the owners were grateful for the support and assistance Freehold Borough residents offered while Cuda was missing.
