Residents gathered at the township's memorial for ceremony commemorating the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11.

Freehold Township residents gathered at the municipal complex Sunday morning to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11. The solemn ceremony centered around the township’s memorial, which features a 9-foot, 11-inch black granite replica of the Twin Towers. The towers sit atop a granite circle featuring 50 gold stars, and the base of the monument is shaped like the Pentagon. An American flag was flown from a fire truck ladder during the ceremony.

Members of Freehold Township Independent Fire Co. No. 1, East Freehold Fire Company, and the Freehold Township Police Department placed wreaths on the memorial.  In addition, color guards from the Marine Corps League, Freehold Township Boy Scout Troop 155, and Freehold VFW Post 4374 were gathered around the monument.

Fr. Edward M. Jawidzik of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, Rabbi Brooks Susman, Mayor David M. Salkin and Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno addressed the crowd of approximately 200.
