Snowy Mix Predicted for Saturday into Sunday

Snow predicted for 7 a.m. Saturday before changing to a mix of rain and snow through Sunday

A band of winter weather is predicted to hit coastal New Jersey with some snow accumulation and icy rain over Saturday into Sunday.

The National Weather Service Mount Holly Office is predicting snowfall for much of New Jersey for around 7 a.m. Saturday, giving way to a snowy mix and icy rain in Central Jersey into later Saturday through Sunday.

Here is the latest from the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management:

Looking at Saturday into Sunday for a winter precipitation event. Here's the latest NWS info. The forecast will evolve as the day goes on.

Details are still being worked out, but there will be an accumulating snow for many areas, especially north and west of the I-95 corridor. Attached is a briefing package. Another briefing package will be issued by 5 PM this afternoon.

Precipitation will begin early Saturday morning and end Sunday morning. Precipitation could begin as all snow almost everywhere, but as warmer air begins to move in, a changeover to sleet, freezing rain, then plain rain is expected from south to north. However, precipitation may remain as snow or a snow/sleet/freezing rain mixture north of the I-78 corridor throughout the event.

More details concerning snow / ice accumulations will be available as we get closer to the event. This briefing package contains the latest probabilities (issued 4 AM Thursday) for snow / ice accumulations with this storm. These estimates will be revised as the storm approaches. Please access the NWS website for the latest available information: http://www.erh.noaa.gov/phi.

A full moon occurs on December 17 (next Tuesday). However, because this storm will be moving fast enough, tidal flooding, if it develops at all, should be minor.
