The Main Street Gazebo Continues Entertaining

Outdoor diners listen to talented entertainers on weekends in the summer and fall.

During the day, the skeletal white gazebo outside of the Metropolitan Cafe keeps its secret. There appears to be no reason for its existence.

Those of us who have enjoyed outdoor dining at the Metropolitan Cafe or the other restaurants on the block are privy to its purpose. While eating anywhere in that "restaurant row" of Freehold, you are serenaded by musical talents from the area. The music adds to the magic of a cool breeze, a full moon and a street full of happy people. As on every weekend, that was the case when I stopped by on Saturday Sept. 10.

Downtown Freehold sets up comfortable chairs to accommodate the non-eating audience; families complete with treats and hot chocolate, as well as any passersby who just want to stop and listen and enjoy.

That night his melodic voice filled the Freehold air with a variety of sounds from a variety of genres. People sang along with him to familiar songs by Billy Joel and Cyndi Lauper. His original music was excellent as well. At one point Don sang a duet with a small boy that touched everyone's heart.

Don talked to the audience as one would talk to a friend. He assured one worried fan that the end of the summer did not mean the end of the concerts in the gazebo and, in fact, he would be returning in October.
