The Tree Is Lit!

Downtown Freehold kicks off the Holiday Season with the annual Tree Lighting in front of the Hall of Records.

The 15-foot Norway Spruce that has been standing in front of the for the past couple of weeks is now a Christmas Tree. At 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011 Freeholder Director, Robert Clifton lit the tree along with Mayor-Elect Higgins and Borough Council Members.

Marketing and Events Coordinator of Downtown Freehold, Richard Gatto, planed the event a year in advance and involved many people from the community. Girl Scout Troop 2780 of the Jersey Shore, made the Christmas Tree a little greener this year by decorating it with about 300 ornaments made out of recycled materials.

Complete with a stable scene, Rock ‘N Roll Chorus performances, hot apple cider provided by , and radio station giveaways, the holiday season kick off event had something for everyone.

But what would a tree lighting be without Santa Claus? Boys and girls did not have to wait long after the illumination before Santa showed up in a fire truck.  Once safely off the truck, Santa made his way into the crowd to take pictures with all the children in front of the Borough Christmas Tree.

The Freehold Borough Christmas Tree will stay lit in front of the Hall of Records for the rest of the Holiday Season. To see what other events are coming to Freehold Borough check out Downtown Freehold’s website.
