VIDEO: Lacey Welcomes Home Marine From War

Kevin Sheehy returned to his Lanoka Harbor home by police and emergency service escort

Lance Cpl. Kevin Sheehy was greeted with a warm welcome on Saturday afternoon.

Police and emergency services escorted Sheehy home while residents, including Mayor Mark Dykoff and Assistant Superintendent Vanessa Clark, stood by with flags and signs. Sheehy, a 2010 graduate, served overseas in Afghanistan since July 2011.

The Lanoka Harbor and Forked River Fire Companies also set up camp with two trucks and an American flag hanging across Haines Street. Sirens sounded as Sheehy popped out of a sunroof holding a flag himself.

When the Lanoka Harbor native returned home, family and friends greeted him with a hug.

"We just get to go from this to this," Sheehy's mom said with a smile and tears as she pointed at a yellow ribbon, which represents a marine overseas, to a 'welcome home' sign.
