Weekend in Freehold: Play Reading, Strawberry Jam, Blood Drive

Weather

Friday will be partly sunny with a high near 89 degrees and an overnight low of 66, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). There is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Friday afternoon.

Saturday will be mostly cloudy with a high near 75 degrees and an overnight low of 63. Showers and thunderstorms are possible.

Sunday also brings a chance of ran and thunderstorms. The high for the day will near 85 degrees and an overnight low of 63, according to the NWS.

The will hold a reading of Arthur Miller’s All My Sons on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The play, directed by Anthony Greco, is about Joe Keller, a successful, middle-aged, self-made man who framed his business partner for a crime. Now his son is about to marry the partner’s daughter and his life begins to unravel.

Play readings are open to the public for a suggested donation of $5. An audience discussion usually follows the performance.

Blood Drive at Masonic Lodge

Olive Branch Masonic Lodge No. 16 of Freehold will hold a blood drive on Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. A free spaghetti dinner will be offered to all donors. Those wishing to come eat without making a blood donation to the Central Jersey Blood Bank can do so for a $10 charge for adults and $5 for children.

Relay for Life

The 2011 Relay for Life of Freehold & Colts Neck, NJ will take place at Bucks Mill Park, Colts Neck on Saturday from noon until Sunday at 7 a.m. There are currently 628 participants in the event and over $96,000 has been raised.

American Cancer Society Relay for Life fundraisers are overnight events meant to highlight that cancer never sleeps. The only requirement to participate is the $10 registration fee, though it is recommended that each participant set a goal to raise $100 for the American Cancer Society. contemporary music group, Joyful Noise, will help celebrate all things strawberry on Saturday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. New Jersey’s strawberry season is at its peak. Enjoy fresh picked strawberries with cream, ice cream or on shortcake while Joyful Noise provides the live entertainment.
