Senior Center Adds a Sweet Treat to their Holiday Line Up

Families attended the Freehold Senior Center on Dec. 14 to decorate their own chocolate houses to give as gifts or keep as center pieces.

For more than 10 years the has partnered up with the Freehold Recreation Commission to bring many holiday events to the residents of Freehold.

Today, families gathered at the Senior Center to decorate chocolate houses with everything from shredded coconut and skittles to blue colored icing.

Tina Smilek, Program Coordinator for the Freehold Recreation Commission explained that decorating chocolate houses is a fun holiday activity that attracts and involves many different people from the community. “For $15 families come in and decorate a house as a center piece or to give as a gift. We have people that come here until they are 16, but a lot of years we get new kids,” said Smilek. “Senior Center staff and Recreation staff work together on a lot of different activities.”
