Round Ireland With a Fridge

The Freehold Borough Arts Council (FBAC) will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day early with its second event. The organization, which just held its inaugural concert on Friday, will host a benefit film screening of the comedy Round Ireland With a Fridge on Friday, March 11 at 7 p.m. at the American Hotel’s Majestic Ballroom.

The movie is based on Tony Hawks’ book by the same name. Round Ireland With a Fridge begins after a night of drinking when Tony Hawks accepts a bet that he cannot hitchhike the perimeter of Ireland with a refrigerator. During the course of a month, Tony has one of the most unforgettable experiences of his life.

The novel has been described as “a classic travel adventure in the tradition of Bill Bryson with a dash of Dave Barry.” The New York Times Book Review called it a "ridiculous and sublime example of the high-concept travel book ... and the sweet bottom line is that anything that brings people together and shows them this good of a time isn't stupid at all."

The FBAC benefit screening will be the movie’s first showing in the United States and will be preceded by short films provided by the Irish Film Institute, Reel Ireland and Culture Ireland. After the feature, there will be a Skype question and answer session with the author and actor, Tony Hawks.

Tickets are $15 and there will also be a cash bar. Advance ticket purchase is recommended. To purchase tickets, visit freeholdboroughartscouncil.blogspot.com. All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the FBAC and their efforts to inspire, provide and champion the arts.
