Main Street came alive Tuesday night as the Freehold Borough Arts Council (FBAC) joined forces with Downtown Freehold to bring the first ever Freehold’s Got Talent competition to the Borough.

Modeled after the popular NBC television show America’s Got Talent, this hometown version showcased some of Freehold’s most gifted performers in a one night competition. Despite popular summer traditions, like Freehold Idol, already happening in town, FBAC President Neal Girandola approached Downtown Freehold with the idea of an event that would allow all different talents of Freehold to be seen.

“Downtown Freehold does such amazing events that encourage the arts,” said Girandola. “Freehold Idol is great for singers so we wanted to do something larger with residents who have other talents.”

Over 20 acts took the stage at the first ever Freehold’s Got Talent, but according to Girandola, many more submissions were originally sent in.  The 60 performers ranged from soloists, to dancers, to bands, and were made up of contestants as young as 7-years-old.

Despite all the wonderful performances, there could only be one first-place-winner.

“The judges had a very difficult job,” said Girandola. “The talent was amazing, anyone could have won last night.”

At the end of the night the first place prize of $500 and trophy was awarded to FaZe4 ROCKERS, made up of Salvator Grande, 11; Dylan Kahan, 10; Nicky Taormina, 12; and Serena Cherchia, 10. The band performed “Rock & Roll” by Led Zeppelin.

The second place prize of $250 was claimed by soloist Nicholas Wainwright who performed “Be Our Guest” from Beauty and the Beast. The third place prize of $100 went to soloist/piano player Tim Gysin who performed “Piano Man” by Billy Joel.

Although this was the first year of Freehold’s Got Talent, close to 300 attendees came out to on Tuesday to watch amazing local talent.

“Last night surpassed all my expectations, Freehold’s Got Talent will absolutely be a staple," summed up Girandola. "This was our first one and next year we will improve and it will be even larger.”
