Get Out: Alejandro Escovedo, Soul Surfer, History Lesson

When and where: Sunday, Jan. 22 at 3 p.m. at the Freehold Jewish Community Center

Why you should go: The first event in the Live From Freehold concert series will bring critically acclaimed musician Alejandro Escovedo to town. The series expands Freehold Borough resident Mark Costanzo’s popular in-studio concerts featuring prominent musicians to larger venues. But you better hurry – tickets are nearly sold out.

Why you should go: The Monmouth Worship Center will screen Soul Surfer during its family movie night. The film Helen and Dennis Quaid in the true story of 13-year-old surfer who lost her arm in a shark attack.

Why you should go: NJ Film School Director Chris Messineo will lead a film discussion titled “Woody Allen: The Art of Infidelity.” Messineo will show scenes from Allen’s movies and anecdotes about the making of the films.

Why you should go: To mark the 300th anniversary of the start of the War of 1812, The Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County will present Commodore Uriah Phillips Levy, as interpreted by historian and re-enactor Bruce Tucker. Levy was a veteran of the War of 1812,  a major philanthropist, and the first Jewish Commodore of the Navy.

What does it cost:  $5 for museum members, $7 general admission, free to students

When and where: Sunday, Jan. 22 at 2 p.m. at in Manalapan

Why you should go: Attention classic music lovers: this multimedia program will explore the musical connection between Robert Schumann, his wife Clara, and Johannes Brahms. The event features pianist Diane Goldsmith, cellist Vivian Barton, violinist Erica Miller, soprano Shannon Hunt, and narrator Ivan Woods.
