Slideshow: Watermelon Seed Spitting, Winning Vegetables and Petting Zoo at Fair

The 37th annual Monmouth County Fair is underway at the East Freehold Showgrounds in Freehold Township. The final day of the fair is today, July 31.

Fun events at the Monmouth County Fair in Freehold were cut short on Friday when a severe thunderstorm rolled in and soaked the fairgrounds. The Equine Extremist Tommy Turvey hustled his horses back to their trailer at the first stroke of lightning, noting thunderstorms are the number one cause of horse deaths in his home state of Florida.

The annual agricultural fair is sponsored by the Monmouth County Parks System and the Monmouth County 4-H Association. Each day of the fair, which runs through Sunday, July 31, features educational activities at the Home and Garden Tent, the Living History Tent and the 4-H Show Tent.

The fifth and final day of the fair is on Sunday, and some unique events will include a pie eating contest, a clown parade, and a pet show.
