Love New York theater, but don’t relish schlepping into the city? Love weddings, but inwardly cringe at the thought of putting up with your family. Or, even worse, your in-laws?

Cringe no more. “Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding,” an improv show, is coming to the for one show only on Saturday, Aug. 13.

“Virtually everyone I asked to come on board jumped on the opportunity to do the show in this lovely setting,” he said. “We're looking very forward to ‘rocking’ the Bella Vista Country Club, this Saturday night!”

Patellis said he has been with the show for the past 20 years, first as a performer in the off-Broadway cast, and then, due to his long experience with the script, as director.

"Tony n' Tina's Wedding" is the longest running off-Broadway show in history. It opened in New York in 1988 and has been delighting audiences – or should that be, wedding guests –  ever since, with its conjoining of a traditional Italian-American wedding combined with over-the-top stereotypes.

One reviewer once wrote, “It’s just like a real wedding…only funnier!”

As always, guests are reminded they are attending a wedding and are invited to dress appropriately – anywhere from wedding formal to business casual is acceptable. Those not dressed appropriately will be admitted, but may have to answer to Tina’s mom, Mrs. Vitale.

Patellis said he is one of a handful of directors to direct the show in locations around the country.

"I've had the opportunity to direct many productions nationally, including in New Orleans, Providence, NJPAC, and East Hampton,” he said.

One of the deciding factors in bringing the show to Marlboro was the setting of the Country Club.

“When I came out to the Bella Vista, to look at the possibility of doing the show there, I was taken by its beauty and immediately saw it as a perfect place to do this show. It's a marvelous setting for a summer wedding,” Patellis said.

The Bella Vista Country Club is located at 100 School Rd. E in Marlboro. Call 732-308-4600 to order tickets or for more information.
