The God Box - Laugh and Cry for a Cause!

This event will go on rain or shine. Share this daughter's story and laugh and cry for a cause!

As many celebrate the Memorial Day Weekend with family barbecues and sojourns down to the shore, some of us will be enjoying a different kind of memorial celebration. We will be gathering this Saturday at 2:00 pm at the beautifully appointed Performing Arts Center of Applewood Estates in Freehold to watch an engaging one-woman performance of The God Box: A Daughter's Story, enacted by New York Times best selling author and talented actress, Mary Lou Quinlan. This event is a fundraiser for GIERS: Grief Information Education & Recovery Services, a 501c3 non profit dedicated to helping people of all ages survive and thrive after a loss.

As a grief counselor for over thirty years, I know that major holiday week ends such as Memorial Day, bring back memories of all the wonderful people we have lost over the years and the special celebrations we enjoyed together in the past. It's never easy coming to terms with the reality that someone we loved will no longer be there to celebrate with us.

After the death of her mother, Mary Lou discovered numerous boxes of notes to God that her mother had written about all the people in her life she loved the most! It was like having her mother back with her again as she read some of her mother's deepest thoughts and feelings! She discovered parts of her mother and herself that she didn't know existed and the process inspired the author to re-direct her life in honor of her mother's spirit and her new found empathetic and authentic self! Come and share this daughter's story and laugh and cry for a cause! Besides, it might rain on Saturday and this event will go on rain or shine.

After the performance, there will be an audience talk back with Mary Lou Quinlan, personal book signing and a delightful reception with food contributed by several fine restaurants of Freehold.

Ticket prices: $20 (General Admission), $27 (admission and a copy of the book), The cost of the book is $10 on the day of the performance. For more information and to purchase tickets & book in advance, go to www.GIERS.org or call 732-577-1076.
