CUPS Makes Cool Addition to Mall

Frozen yogurt shop celebrates grand opening at Freehold Raceway Mall.

The Freehold Raceway Mall got a cool new addition on Thursday when CUPS Frozen Yogurt opened its doors with a special grand opening ceremony.

During the grand opening celebration which lasts for a week customers will receive a scratch off card which can win them prizes like iPhone covers, blankets, pens, wristbands and coupons. One lucky winner will also get free yogurt for a year from the new store at the mall.

The owners of the new Freehold shop, Tom and Judy Calandriello and as a way of showing support for the community 15 percent of sales from August 15 through August 18 were donated to Vetwork. The program is a non-profit organization which helps veterans in Atlantic and Monmouth Counties.

The first CUPS opened in 2010 in Clifton New Jersey and has expanded throughout the tri-state area. There are 21 flavors and 50 toppings as well as three sauces for customers to choose from. “It’s more of a club like experience,” said co-founder Rick Barbrick. “We pump out club dance music at volumes that create a highly energetic vibe, a lounge-type design with couches, ottomans and eclectic murals.”

Barbrick added that employees, or “Cast Members,” as they are known, have “infectiously fun personalities.” Because of this, he said, “It’s the complete experience that gives us that edgy vibe versus an everyday yogurt bar or ice cream shop experience.”
