New French Creperie Opens in Freehold Raceway Mall

A new addition to the Food Court: traditional French crepes with an American twist.

A new restaurant has opened at the Freehold Raceway Mall. Crêpes Célestes will feature fresh savory and sweet crepes, made in the French tradition.

The name "Crêpes Célestes" translates as "Heavenly Crepes" in French. Crepes are large, thin pancakes made with flour, milk, eggs, and butter that take 60 seconds to cook and flip, and then are served hot with different fillings or toppings.

"There's a lot of demand, a lot of people looking for healthy fresh food," said Hemanth Golla, who has recently opened creperies in the Quaker Bridge Mall in Lawrence Township, Garden State Plaza Mall in Paramus, and Palisades Center Mall in West Nyack. "From what we have seen, in the food court, all the options are either frozen, oily or greasy. Everything we do is fresh, and they can see it being made."

The savory crepes are made with authentic natural stone ground buckwheat flour. Popular choices are with pesto chicken with mozzarella ($8.25), or ham, cheese and mushroom ($7.50). Dessert crepes can be made with Nutella, strawberry, banana and whipped cream ($7.95),  or with sugar and butter, and a sprinkle of cinnamon or lemon ($4.00). See the menu for more choices.

Although the restaurant opened Monday, the official grand opening of the restaurant will be held on Saturday, July 25 through Sunday, July 27. Customers will receive a free ice cream with every crêpe, or they can buy two crepes and get one free, said Golla. See the Facebook page for updates.
